Simple ways to prevent colon cancerColon cancer also known as bowel or colorectal cancer, colon cancer causes cancerous growths in the colon, rectum and appendix. It is treated if caught in the early stages and is often discovered through colonoscopy. But, there are ways to minimize risk, which are as follows:

Eat healthy – A diet high in fat and low in fiber raises your risk. Eating lots of fruits and vegetables not only gives you fiber, but also vitamins, minerals, pytochemicals, and antioxidants that are thought to be powerful anticancer agents.

Don’t smoke and do avoid too much alcohol – smoking and too much alcohol are bad for your health. They increase the risk for many types of cancer including bowel cancer.

Stay on the go – exercising for just 30 minutes on most days can reduce the risk and help the weight down.

arguments that parents should avoid drinking

arguments that parents should avoid drinkingMost of the parents, who enjoy drinking alcohol, choose not to partake for the sake of their kids. Intelligent parents, who want to save their children from the damaging effects of alcohol use, will choose not to drink alcohol themselves. Well, here are the arguments to prove this point:

  • Modeling or example is the best teacher.
  • A double stand doesn’t work. Kids do what you do not what you say.
  • Telling a child they should not drink until they are twenty-one is a temporary solution and teaches them drinking alcohol is ok. What happens, if when they become 21, they choose to drink and end up destroying their life anyway? The first drink can be the beginning of alcoholism or it can lead to a DUI at any age. They can become an intoxicated driver that can kill or injure themselves or someone else.
  • Why should we not teach moderation? Because moderation teaches it’s ok to drink alcohol. Some people can’t handle moderation. Alcohol becomes something they become addicted to. How do you know if you child can handle it? Can you take that chance? Read more

sharing what I find

sharing what I findBefore I forget I’ll just share what I find in the web evening of yesterday. While doing my usual internet surf, I came across a beauty school indianapolis of Regency. I dig deeper onto more information to have a better understanding. Basically, Regency is the fastest growing beauty school in the US. It has expanded from two Minnesota schools in 2002 to almost 30 campuses across nine states, with continued growth under way for next year. Their campuses mirror upscale salons and provide an exceptional education that benefits our students, the salon community, and the public. Accordingly, part of their training is to let students provide high-quality, discounted salon services to the public under expert faculty supervision. That’s it, I think that school is really interesting.

falling in love with photography

digital camI have been telling wiffy about my plans of buying an SLR camera. Now, I can find myself falling in love with photography making wiffy jealous of it. Joke only! The truth is, she too likes photography. She even has good shots than I do. But, we only have a digital camera with a limited capacity especially on getting the details. We don’t know how to use it, in getting the details of our subject. That is the reason we search the web for helpful tools.

In the midst of our search we found the book called Numismatic Photography by Mark Goodman that is published by Zyrus Press. It’s not the type of book that we are looking for, but its worth to share especially to the member of the coin collectors club. Here is the reason.

As the use of the Internet and electronic visual media becomes more of a vital part of the coin industry, photographing coins, either raw or slabbed, has become an increasing concern with collectors and dealers. These concerns are addressed after reading the book. This book teaches the reader in an easy-to-read and visually rich guidebook format on how to image quality photos of coins using digital camera. Whether first timer or experienced photographers Goodman addresses typical problems faced by the photographer, recommends ways of improvements and offers specific tips and techniques for raw and slabbed coins and gold coins.

ensuring great vacation with parents

September 26, 2009 by Denz · Leave a Comment

I must say that traveling with our parents can be a wonderful experience if we plan well ahead. Here are things we must do to ensure that we will have a great vacation together with our parents.

  • Itinerary should not be too fast paced – Old folks tend to get tired easily and thus it is not advisable to include activities that are too strenuous. It is also not advisable to pack too many activities in the itinerary such that you and your parents have to rush from one place to another.
  • Ensure that everyone has ample sleep – Plan to have at least six to eight hours of sleep for you and your parents for each day of your vacation. Try to avoid having any more activities after 11 p.m. Prepare some hot water for your parents to soak their legs before bed time if there is a fair amount of walking in the day.
  • Prepare ample supply of their medication – If your parents are suffering from diabetes, asthma, hypertension, high cholesterol or any other illness, make sure you obtain ample supply of medication from their doctors to last for the whole trip. To ensure that you remember to bring the medication, create a checklist of things to bring and put their medication among the top five items on that list. As a safety precaution, ask them to carry a medical record of their illness and contact details in case you are not around when they need medical attention.
  • Healthy diet – Most old people do not take heavy meals and thus you need to plan for multiple light and healthy meals that are low on salts, oil and sugars but high in fiber. Always have a sandwich or high fiber biscuits in your bag in case they get hungry and there isn’t a snack bar in the vicinity. Also make sure that you and your parents drink a lot of water to prevent dehydration.
  • Bring along a first aid travel pack – Your first aid travel pack should contain medication for fever and diarrhea, cold symptoms and giddiness. It should also include a thermometer, tweezers, sharp scissors, safety pins, adhesive bandages, sterile gauze, adhesive tape and antiseptic wipes. While this list is not exhaustive, the stocks in the travel pack should be enough to cater to most conditions that require general first aid assistance. Do check the expiry date for those medications that you bring along to ensure that they are safe for consumption.
