A house is one of the biggest investments a person could have in his lifetime. Many would start purchasing the smaller ones especially for newlyweds where budget is an issue. Doing so saves them from paying monthly rent other than having a home they can call their own. Later on, they can jump into getting bigger houses when the finances are good.
