coach-cury-fired-with-pistonsNews said this morning that Detroit has fired Coach Michael Curry after they suffered a losing record and an NBA play-offs first-round sweep in his first season in charge. Pistons went 39-43 and then endured four one-sided losses to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the post-season. The Pistons began last season with big hopes but failed to recover from the loss of All-Star point guard Chauncey Billups, who joined Denver in November.

Joe Dumars, the team’s president for basketball operations said that this was a difficult decision to make and I want to thank Michael for his hard work and dedication. However, at this time, he has decided to make a change. Dumars also fired coach Flip Saunders last year after he led the team to the Eastern Conference finals in each of his three seasons. Curry, 40, was an assistant under Saunders for one season. He is a former president of the NBA Players Association and played for the Pistons from 1995-1997 and 1999-2003.
